hi blog.

Just thought I'd do a nice big catchup post on the ol' blog. I've been posting junky little drawings on my twitter (almost) this whole time, but the last week or so I've been coloring them and generally trying to be a little less half-assed about it. Here are those drawings! Can you tell I am excited about Mad Mens on Sunday?

Also exciting: Scott Pilgrim movie! In a few weeks! I love the books with all my heart. Well, not the last one, because Amazon still hasn't shipped my copy. HISS.

And finally, the front cover of my book! Coming out in Spring 'll. I'll be getting preview copies in a few months and there'll be preorder information and stuff, which I will tell you about here. On my blog.

girly time

Lately I've been trying to do a simple little warm-up girly doodle every morning before starting work. It seems kind of cluttery to upload every single one here, so I've been posting them to my twitter account. We'll see how long it keeps up. For folks who don't want to pick through all my horrible tweets about my lunch and what I thought of LOST last week just to look at one measly drawing that I spent ten minutes on, you can check out this directory, where they will live.

I also doodled Roxy from Scott Pilgrim today because duuuuude look trailer. I'm not sure she actually looked like this, either in the comic or the movie. Oh well.

eat me/drink me

I painted these two fellas for the Curiouser and Curiouser show at good ol' Nucleus. If you live in LA, the show is up til March 29th! If you do not live in LA, you can check out the other pieces here.

Also, if you are into process stuff (I sure am!), I took some pictures while I was working on the larger of these paintings, and put them up in a flickr set. Edifying!

some small things

Oh man I am working on so many things. All at once. So everything's sort of 1/3 done and there's nothing to put on the blog. Except these dumb comics I drew in NY! I did one for every day of a seven day trip, but after Day Four I was tired and kind of not into it any more so I stopped inking them. They're not very good, I promise.

You can look at these! And imagine the rest of my trip being awesome.

booky book

I handed my final files in this week so I figure it's as good a time as any to give a little bit more info on my book! It's called "Kristyna's Ghost", and is being published by First Second Books in Spring of 2011. It's 221 pages and kind of purply blue. There is a girl named Kristyna, and a ghost. I guess that is not all that much more info, but since the publishing date is so far away I figured I should probably hold on to some stuff for then. This is one of the very first drawings of both characters that I did, and I still like it okay.

Now that my evenings are not consumed with coloring secret comics, I'm going to do some more painting and drawing that I can actually post here! Super looking forward to that. So sit tight, blog friends.

sticky!

Look at all that craziness. I was recently and very kindly asked to do a sticker pack for the nifty PS3 game LittleBigPlanet. LBP is all about making and sharing cool levels, and the stickers are basically in-game images that you can customize levels with to make all kinds of fun stuff. It was really fun to do and I hope that those of you with playstations and fondnesses for SackBoy will pick it up! I believe it is out today.

Here is some sticker-pack related stuff on the Media Molecule blog:
-- The announcement
-- A trailer to demonstrate the stickers in action
-- An interview with me

And in following my own rule, a random, confusing panel from the book. I'm almost done! Whee!

stinky.

Is that... is that... yeah, I did a drawing. Just a little quick one, as thanks for somebody who gifted me some perfume I was looking for. So no, that is not nail polish she is painting onto her chest. Sheesh.

I decided my deal is, if I post some kind of art here I also get to post a mysterious panel from the comic. What secrets does that word bubble contain? No one will ever know.

In conjunction with comic stuff and to keep me from going crazy I am dipping my toe into making a sculpt of said comic's protagonist. So far I am finding that it is very very hard and very very educational. (I am getting lots of help from the very patient sculptor at work.) I kind of wish I'd done this before I started drawing because it would be soooo good for keeping things on model. It's a bit terrifying trying to decode my flat, cheat-laden drawings into 3D. We'll see how much further I get before I give up in frustration.
